Linux on the PS3 - I've given up: (
After almost a month waiting for a solution, I installed the "anti-Linux" firmware. I wanted to gamble online again. Still, it pisses me.
Gamble online with the PS3 without updating 3:21 [defunct]
Unfortunately, the workaround works since the 13th April, not more. Sony is now reviewing the application to the PSN even when the firmware version. The Update Downgrade 3:21 for the PS3 from the Linux support of the PS3. Therefore you should not install it if you want to continue to use the PS3 as a Linux computer. In order to still gamble online with the PS3 may have to fiddle a bit and you pretend that there is no update to 3.21. Thanks to some stranger from the Golem forum who have put together the method. I have just summarized in one easy-to-use script. The trick works like this: Before the PS3 goes online, it checks whether it has the latest system software. If not, the user is prompted for the update and the connection fails. To check the PS3 connects to a Sony server and reads a text file in which the current version is stored.
In order to fool the PS3, they already have the latest version, you need a local proxy server (Squid in the example) that redirects the request to the Sony server to another server, on which lies an older version of the text file. The PS3 thinks that it is up to date and goes online.
The code was getstet in a Debian Lenny with a local web server on the machine. It should also work in Ubuntu without problems.
Then you have the PS3 as a proxy (Settings -> Network Settings -> Internet Connection Settings) still specify only the IP of the Squid proxy. The default port is 3128 Squid
Unfortunately this is not a permanent solution. Once the first games that require firmware 3.21, it will be unplayable by this workaround. But probably one soon anyway permanent solution available. Possibly also at the legal side of doing something, because the actions of Sony clearly against the EU Directive 1999/44 precludes the application requires, among other things, that a purchased product in the EU must fulfill the function that made known to the buyer at the time of purchase was. Literally, "fit for the purpose the consumer requires them and Which Which was made known to the seller at the time of purchase" "
Linux on the PS3 apparently rescued
Last week, the new PS3 firmware beaten Blogger waves, since they removed the only new feature support for additional operating system on the PS3. Today presented "GeoHot" announced his way out of trouble:
I have not been updated to the "Other OS" not to compromise, because I'm making a build-Box emu wanted. So far, the patch of Geohot has not been published. In order to continue to go with a PS3 is not updated online, can be tinkered with, such as Squid Web proxy. I'm curious. More info here: http://geohotps3.blogspot.com/
